Central England, a location where our Irish Folk Band could play for your wedding or eventTowns, cities and regions have an influence on the style of music, whether it is the 'English Countryside' feel of Vaughan Williams, the strength of Elgar's Victorian Malvern, or the skirl of Northumbrian Pipe tune. Of Central England, has been said:- " "King Alfred the Great defeated the Vikings (the Danes) who had settled in Northern England, against the will of the Anglo-Saxons living there. Then, after the battle, Alfred turned Christian and decided to make peace. The Vikings accepted the offer, planning to wait and recuperate. By 1016, the Danes had taken all of England. Their leader, Sven Forkbeard died at his moment of triumph to be succeeded by Canut Svenson, his son. He marries Emma and together they have Hearth Acknut who succeeded his father. In 1042, the son of Ethelread the Unready and Emma, Edward the Confessor ascends the throne. Edward suffered for his religion and survives, hence 'the Confessor'. Godwin, the Earl of Wessex is exiled after his daughter Edith marries Edward. He returns to defeat the king. He is not crowned, but rules untitled. His son, Harold Godwinson becomes the most powerful man in England. When captured in Normandy, Harold signs away his inheritance of the throne to William of Normandy, but with no sincerity. When Edward dies in 1066, Harold declares that Edward's dying wish was to have him on the throne. He is crowned the very next day. " The fashion for popular airs has spread quickly throughout the musical world. From east to west the tiniest villages have been ransacked, and simple tunes, plucked from the mouths of hoary peasants, find themselves, to their consternation, trimmed with harmonic frills.~ Debussy CLICK HERE [Irish Folk Bands in Central England for your wedding] [About Irish Folk Bands] [Ensembles in Central England wedding music repertoire] [About Central England] [About music in Central England] [About Wedding Venues] [About Wedding Ceremonies registrars, ministers and music] [About other kinds of music such as jazz or folk] [Frequently Asked Questions FAQs] [Ensembles1] [Ensembles2] [Ensembles3] [Ensembles4] [Links] [Home Page] | | |
